Thanks Ric. That's actually why I made 'Be Thou My Vision' arrangements. Someone requested it and continued to email me until I go the chance to make and film the arrangements. Am in the midst of a few other projects right now... but will look into this soon.
God Bless, Jean

Ric.
That's a very nice arrangement. It's in the key of 'D' and he is using low 'D' tuning on the 6th string. It wouldn't be hard to figure out... but I don't have time at the moment. The chords are mostly around D, A and E in various positions on the neck. He's playing the melody in the treble strings and filling in the basses when the melody is holding. He's also using a flat 7, which is such a nice sound, and some suspended chords like the Dsus towards the beginning of the song. If you take if frame by frame, you should be able to pick up most of it. Just turn your 6th string down to 'D' first.
Blessings,
Jean

Hi Jean, i hope this URL works, it's of Buddy Church playing How Great Thou Art (finger picking). I would love to find the music as close to how he's playing....any suggestions?

Dear Jean,
Though, I am a subscriber to this course, I am unable to get into lesson 3. I was able to log in a while ago but for some strange reason, when I clicked on the link two days ago it said 'subscriber contetnt only' -and I am a subscriber! Please could this be resolved as soon as possible. Thanks.
Meanwhile, I am learning a lot from these lessons- technique wise - thanks for putting them together!

Joseph, sorry it's confusing. This is an instrumental solo build around the Travis picking pattern. There is not a specific pattern to use because the idea is to hear the melody of the song while you're filling in chords with parts of a Travis pick. The main idea of a Travis pick is having the Thumb play notes on the strong beats.... beats 1, 2, 3, and 4... while the fingers fill in notes of the melody.

To make the melody fit... sometimes the Travis pick is even suspended. In the first measure on beats 3 and 4 you don't play any bass notes with your thumb. It's a little trickier to master this song than some of the other songs. If you are finding it too hard... just slow it way down or come back to it later.

In the book, it is written out in musical notation and in guitar tab. To write it out with just chords would miss whole melody. I don't think there is a 'better' way to write it out. Again, you are free to skip it and come back when you're more comfortable reading tab or notes.

Blessings, Jean

Hi Jean,

Travis pick 3 - Instumental, Which pattern of Travis pick are we using? 1st or 2nd? It is diffuclt to understand by watching this video, can you simplify it in a sheet to understand to play this song mixing with the Travis pick. The book also does not help, it is very difficult to understand.
